PHLD GCC Landscape India
India’s PHLD (Pharma, Healthcare, Life Sciences & Devices) GCC ecosystem has become a substantial and fast-growing part of the country’s broader capability centre story — reflecting both real scale today and a steep growth trajectory ahead.
The Landscape Today
India is home to more than 150 PHLD GCCs, spread across roughly 250 units and employing an estimated 300,000 professionals — close to 15% of India’s total GCC talent pool. More than 40% of these centres now operate across two or more cities, reflecting a maturing, multi-hub approach to expansion rather than a single-site model.
A Fast-Growing Talent Pool
The PHLD talent pool has grown roughly tenfold over the past decade and a half — from 40,000 professionals in 2010 to 100,000 by 2015, reaching 280,000 by 2024. That trajectory is expected to continue, with the pool projected to hit 420,000 by 2030.
Within these centres, the workforce splits across three broad functions: core healthcare and R&D roles make up the largest share at 43%, followed closely by business process management at 41%, with information technology accounting for the remaining 16%.
